Do you ever get in the mood where you feel like eating nothing really? Or else nothing is appealing? When I’m in those moods, I’m bad and resort to a lot of fast food. McD’s and Culvers are my best friends :D. I don’t know why. These are the signs I’m still on a creative block. Maybe seeing my parents will get me out of it. So about after a week of junk foods, I figured I had to eat something somewhat healthy. I figured I’ll make some of my mom’s lettuce wraps. I like this quite a bit but The Husband complains when I make it too much. It actually hit the spot. I can’t wait until I get out of this funk. My weight can’t handle all the burgers (Yes, I’m that bad).
Lettuce Wraps
1 lb of Ground Turkey (my mom uses Chicken)
3-4 Tbs of Grated Ginger
Salt and Pepper to taste
Lemon Juice
Cilantro
Directions
- Take a large sauce pot or stock pot and fill it 2/3 way of water.
- Add the grated ginger.
- Bring the water the a boil
- Drop the ground turkey and once it starts to float, it is cooked.
- Drain the meat of any water and season with the salt, pepper, lemon juice, and cilantro.
- Serve with lettuce and condiments like Hoisin sauce (my favorite) or Chili Sauce like Tuong Ot Toi.
Cool -- I've never poached ground turkey like this. Sounds yummy. I love Thai Sweet Chili Sauce. Nice easy recipe!
ReplyDeletenever had like this simple healthy salad
ReplyDeleteYum! lettuce wraps are one of my faves to get at Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs.. I'd love to make them at home though!
ReplyDeleteI love lettuce wraps. :-)) And I have tried it only with chicken.
ReplyDeleteLOL, even i have those "fast food" moods and do a lot of quick fixes!
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest happy follower.
ReplyDeleteI get that way too. I have to force myself out of it just like you. Your mom’s lettuce wraps look like a beautiful recipe to break out of the fast food cycle. And happy 1st blogiversary!!!

I adore lettuce wraps...but I definitely have those fast food moods. In fact, we just got burgers and fries last night. Thank you for your warm words today on my blog. They mean a lot to me (and to my family)
ReplyDeletethat's lovely joy! i'm always looking for healthy chicken dishes especially that i'm on a diet nowadays. thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteI've never thought to make my ground turkey this way. But, I love lettuce wraps and this sounds delicious so I'll have to try this.
ReplyDeleteLettuce wraps must be comfort food for you. What a wonderful recipe to beat the "funk".
ReplyDeleteLovely recipe. Would you poach them in chicken/turkey stock? I think they'd also be lovely in a clear soup.
ReplyDeleteI get in moods like that periodically. I hate the feeling of being hungry and nothing hitting the spot.
ReplyDeleteThese wraps look great... I bet they did hit the spot!
The wraps look delicious! I miss living in the same city as a Culvers!
ReplyDeleteOh no, not fast food. Don't do it, it's addictive. This, however, looks very good. I like the addition of ginger btw.
ReplyDeleteI get into food funks too sometimes. I've just started making all of my taco's with ground turkey, will definitely try the wraps too, they look great!
ReplyDeleteMy husband gets into food funks simply because he says that making anything is "too much like work." There can be the fixings for any number of wonderful food, including something as simple as a hot egg sandwich, but he won't do it. This looks incredible and like something I could just store in the fridge and let him throw together so he doesn't have to "work." :)
