A Twist to Thanksgiving

I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Mine was nice and peaceful - I did not have to cook, I just had to bring dessert.  I spent most of the day cleaning up around the house and read all of the Black Friday sales.  I had to work on Friday so no shopping for me.
On Thanksgiving, I jst spent some quality time with my famil and I wanted to do something with our friends.  But instead of having even more turkey we decided to host a "wing-off".  The rules went like this.....
There will be two categories:
1. Traditional
2. Exotic

RULES
1. Must be homemade
2. Everybody needs to enter both  *it was just myself and The Husband made both
3. A lb of each type
4. Judging will be voted by the majority (You can't vote for your own)



I submitted two different types of wings.  One was planned and the other didn't come out as plan.  I first tried to make a pastrami wing but I soon realized I didn't have any of the ingredients except for the wings and pepper so I seasoned the wings and than covered it with cranberry sauce.  Not a fan favorite.  The other one I actually thought out and planned what I was making.  I decided to make a taco wing.


Taco Wings
2 Lbs of Wings with the wings separated into two parts.
3 Cups of Corn Tortilla Chips Crushed
4 Tbs of Taco Seasoning - I actually found a seasoning called fiesta lime
1/2 Cup of Chihuahua Cheese (or Doggie Cheese according to The Husband)
1/4 Cup of Cilantro
2 Eggs
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F
  2. Take the crushed tortilla chips and season it with the taco seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Beat the eggs into a egg wash.
  4. Dip the wings into the egg wash than the tortilla mixture.
  5. Place on a prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 30 to 40 or until the chicken is fully cooked.
  7. Right before you remove from the oven, sprinkle the cheese over the wings to melt.
  8. Remove from the pan and top with the cilantro.
  9. Serve

My weird Cranberry Wings

The Husband wings - the sauce was a mixture of hot sauce, chocolate sauce, and some of my good milk chocolate.  It was hit but what a strange combo.

This was The Husbands other wings.  The breading is made of crushed corn pops.  This was my favorite - sweet and crunchy.

One of Our friends wings - A sweet Asian style with sesame seeds.  It had a great crust to it.  
My Cousin's Wing.  She made a sweet kind also by using pineapples.  I loved the sauce on this one.  
We made a circle of the wings and numbered it according for voting so everybody would just have to write the number they liked.  

This is how I sampled each one.  I took the wings in number order.

Everybody got 3 votes each and if they really liked a recipe, they were able to write the same number multiple times.  The winner was.........

I hate to admit it but it was good.  I still owe him a trophy and now our friends want to do another cooking competition.  The next voted theme is dip.  It is brain storming time.

  1. How fun! The pictures aren't coming through on my computer, but they sound like tons of fun. We had a Chili cook-off at work and they are just great. I love how everyone can taste everything and laugh and compliment. I will have to suggest a wing-off!
